WhatsApp for manufacturers and exporters: 2,655 sites, 16 platforms, one website package

Manufacturers and exporters are the largest group of Indian homepages that link WhatsApp, and among the least likely to run a platform behind it. The HTML of their homepages explains part of it: six in ten of their WhatsApp buttons are the same box, shipped with one company's website package.

The short version

  • Of the .in homepages whose title reads as a manufacturer, exporter or industrial firm, 2,751 carry a WhatsApp link, platform or chat widget and 2,655 link WhatsApp: the largest title group in our August 2026 scan.
  • Only 16 show a WhatsApp platform fingerprint, a platform rate of 0.6%. Tawk.to, a website chat widget, appears on 112 of the same pages.
  • On 1,636 of the 2,655 WhatsApp-linking homepages (61.6%) the button is one identical pre-filled box, on pages whose footer reads 'Developed & Managed By Weblink. In Pvt. Ltd.' The button came with the website package.
  • That box explains the unusual link format. Every template page uses api.whatsapp.com/send; manufacturers outside it prefer wa.me, 597 to 383, like the rest of the .in web.
  • Meta prices each message by the recipient's country calling code, across 47 markets on its rate card from 1 October 2026, so an overseas buyer's follow-up costs differ from a domestic dealer's.

People searching for WhatsApp for manufacturers, or WhatsApp for exporters, usually want to know whether B2B buyers in India really use it and what a factory should set up. Our own data answers the first part. In our scan of Indian homepages, sites whose title reads as a manufacturer, exporter or “industries” firm are the largest group carrying a WhatsApp signal: 2,751 of them, 2,655 with a WhatsApp link. Only 16 show a WhatsApp platform behind it. And 1,636 of those 2,655 links, about six in ten, are the same pre-filled box, which arrived with one company’s website package.

We make Conecxt, one of the WhatsApp platforms in this category. Conecxt leaves no fingerprint on a customer’s homepage, so it is absent from the counts below, like every tool that connects through the API alone.

In August 2026 we read the archived homepage of all 113,102 .in domains in Common Crawl’s monthly crawl and looked for WhatsApp links, the code of 137 WhatsApp platform vendors and ten chat widgets. For this article we sorted the pages by the words in their title and, on 18 October, re-read the archived HTML of all 113,102 for the details below; the method and every caveat are in our study of WhatsApp on Indian websites.

About 2,650 .in homepages, almost all of them a plain link. The group is defined by title words (manufacturer, exporter, industries, Pvt Ltd, machinery, engineering, chemicals, steel, plastic, packaging, equipment, supplier, mills, enterprises), so it is broad: an “Enterprises” trader lands here too.

The 16 platform pages show Salesforce 6, Interakt 4, Wati 2, AiSensy 2 by its widget and 1 by its domain, and Gallabox 1. Salesforce sells far more than WhatsApp, so its code is not proof of a WhatsApp inbox; which WhatsApp platforms Indian websites use explains what a fingerprint can and can’t show. The chat-widget layer is bigger: Tawk.to sits on 112 of these pages. Only the 100 astrology and matrimony pages have a lower platform rate than manufacturing in our industry table.

One website package supplies six in ten of the buttons

The pre-filled message study found 3,135 .in homepages whose WhatsApp link pre-fills the same sentence: “Hello! I found your website”, the site’s own address, then “and am interested in your products” (or “properties”, “packages”, “jobs”). We first described it as a chat plugin’s default, and corrected that article on 18 October 2026. Reading the full HTML of those pages shows something more specific: none of the 3,135 carries WordPress, Shopify, Wix or GoDaddy builder code, and almost all share one footer credit and one set of asset servers.

That is the website’s own statement of who built and manages it, repeated on nearly every page that carries the sentence. Among manufacturers the template is on 1,636 of the 2,655 WhatsApp-linking homepages, 61.6%. Its titles lean the same way: 1,422 of those 1,636 use the words manufacturer, export or exporter, against 597 of the 1,115 other pages in the group. So part of why manufacturing is the biggest title group is one package writing titles that way.

Because the template does. The industry article reported that manufacturing sites use api.whatsapp.com/send more than three to one over wa.me (2,019 to 597) and first put it down to older plugins; that article now carries the finding below. Splitting the pages by template gives the answer.

All .in, any other button20,9337,11813,2142,106449

Take the template out and manufacturers prefer wa.me by about 1.6 to 1. The same holds for every title group in the scan: real estate and retail, the two that looked even or api-leaning, carry the template on 268 and 202 pages, and without it both prefer wa.me (470 to 317 and 412 to 200). Across the whole .in scan, template pages are 3,125 of the 10,243 homepages using api.whatsapp.com/send, about three in ten. Both formats open a chat, and the template gets one thing right that hand-made buttons often miss: it writes the number with 91. Bare ten-digit numbers, which break the link, appear on 3 of 1,636 template pages against 95 of 928 other manufacturer pages with a readable number (10.2%).

What else is on a manufacturer’s homepage?

We counted a few B2B signals on the same pages: links to B2B marketplaces, PDFs, enquiry forms with a message box, tap-to-call links and email links.

The template comes as a set: one WhatsApp number, an enquiry form, an exportersindia.com link and, on all but 3 pages, no tap-to-call link. Manufacturers outside it look like the rest of the web, with one difference: they link a brochure or catalogue PDF more than twice as often (8.4% against 3.3%). Marketplace links outside the template are rare, 31 of 1,019 pages. Two or more numbers appear on 6.5% of their numbered pages, close to the 6.6% for other sites; two WhatsApp numbers on one website covers what that does to the record.

The .com side

Many exporters use .com. Among the 43,025 .com homepages that link an Indian (+91) WhatsApp number, 3,107 have a title that matches the same manufacturing words. They use wa.me 1,614 times and api.whatsapp.com/send 1,337 times, 11 show a platform fingerprint (0.35%, against 0.9% for all Indian-numbered .com pages), and 181 list two or more numbers. Our .com body cache holds only about 6% of those pages, so we did not measure the template there.

What the shared template tells you

For a large share of Indian exporters, the WhatsApp button is whatever came with the website package. Nobody at the factory chose the number format, wrote the sentence or decided that chats should land on one handset; the package decided, and on most of these pages the sentence still announces only that the buyer “found your website”. How Indian websites add the WhatsApp button covers the do-it-yourself plugins; this is the other route, where the button is part of a hosted site.

That isn’t a criticism of the button. It opens a chat on a number with the country code, something about one in ten of the other manufacturer buttons get wrong. The problem starts after the tap.

What a B2B buyer gets when they tap it

A chat on somebody’s phone. Rajendra Bhatt, an invented example, makes brass hardware in Jamnagar with 40 people. His site’s WhatsApp box points at his own mobile. Domestic dealers asking for a rate, a buyer in Dubai asking for samples and a German importer asking for a test certificate all arrive in the same chat list, between family messages.

Kavita Solanki runs his export desk. When the German enquiry arrives, Rajendra forwards a screenshot to her. The buyer’s name, the earlier quote and the PDF he was sent stay on Rajendra’s phone; Kavita starts again from her own number, and the buyer now has two chats with one company. If Rajendra changes his handset or a salesman leaves, the history leaves with it.

Time zones make it worse. A buyer in Hamburg writing after lunch is writing in Jamnagar’s evening; an American buyer’s morning falls in India’s evening or night. On a plain link, the reply waits for whoever holds the phone to wake up and notice.

Setting up WhatsApp for a manufacturing company

Four changes cover most of it. Start with the number, because everything else hangs off it.

One business number, everywhere

Put one business number in the website box, the catalogue, the trade-fair banner and every visiting card, and keep it off personal handsets. If your site is a hosted package, ask whoever manages it whether the box’s number and pre-filled sentence can be changed; the HTML doesn’t say. Our link mistakes guide shows the correct format; WhatsApp’s own rule is a full international number with no zeroes, brackets or dashes.

Overseas buyers: the window, templates and country rates

When a buyer messages you, a 24-hour customer service window opens and resets with each of their messages. Inside it you can reply freely; outside it Meta’s pricing page says you “can only send template messages”. A buyer who wrote on Friday evening their time and hears back on Monday needs an approved template first.

Meta prices each delivered message by its category and by “the recipient WhatsApp phone number’s country calling code”. Its rate card from 1 October 2026 lists 47 markets: 39 named countries, among them the UAE, the UK, Germany, Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh, and 8 regions, with the US and Canada charged together as North America. Each number gets 1,000 free service messages a month; Meta charges from the 1,001st. Look up a buyer’s country on the rate card before you plan follow-ups to an overseas list. One exception matters for exporters: Meta’s per-user limits page (updated 17 June 2026) says WhatsApp “does not currently deliver marketing template messages” to US phone numbers, so plan offers to US buyers by email and keep WhatsApp for their replies and order updates. Terms such as template and service message are in the WhatsApp Business glossary.

The catalogue PDF in the chat

Meta’s media page accepts PDFs up to 100 MB, and the filename’s extension sets the icon the buyer sees, so call it what the buyer would search for later. Inside the window it goes as an ordinary reply; outside it, a template can carry the PDF as a document header. Our media limits article covers the other file types.

Send each enquiry to the right desk

Domestic dealers and overseas buyers need different people. Give the export page’s button its own pre-filled sentence (“Export enquiry: please share FOB prices for”) so the first line tells you which desk it belongs to. Then route it on the shared number to a named person, with the quote and the PDF kept on the conversation. Dealer orders after the first sale follow the pattern in our distributor and dealer playbook.

What our data can’t tell you

The caveats from our method apply here in full. We read homepages only, so an exporter that links WhatsApp from its Contact page counts as no link. Industry groups come from title words and this one is broad. A platform fingerprint means vendor code on the page; a firm that runs a provider’s inbox behind a plain link leaves no trace, so 0.6% is a floor. Counts are of homepages, not companies. And the crawl is from 7 to 20 August 2026; a site can have changed since. The builder finding rests on literal markers in the HTML; we make no other claim about that company.

What we’d check first

Open your own homepage on a phone and tap the WhatsApp button. If the sentence says “I found your website” and the chat opens on one person’s mobile, you are one of the 1,636. Change the number to your business number, write a sentence for each page, and decide who answers the export enquiries before the next one arrives at night.

Common questions

Do manufacturers and exporters in India use WhatsApp?

Yes, mostly as a plain link. In our scan of Common Crawl's August 2026 archive, 2,655 .in homepages whose title reads as a manufacturer, exporter or industrial firm linked WhatsApp, the largest title group. Only 16 showed a WhatsApp platform fingerprint, 0.6%. The scan reads homepages only, so the true number of firms with a link is higher.

Why do so many exporter websites have the same WhatsApp message?

Because the button came with the website. On 3,135 .in homepages the WhatsApp link pre-fills 'Hello! I found your website', the site's address and 'am interested in your products'. 3,112 of those pages carry the footer credit 'Developed & Managed By Weblink. In Pvt. Ltd.', and none show WordPress, Shopify or Wix code.

Does WhatsApp Business messaging cost more for overseas buyers?

It costs differently. Meta's pricing page, updated 30 September 2026, says rates depend on the message category and the recipient's country calling code. Its rate card from 1 October 2026 lists 47 markets: 39 named countries, including the UAE, the UK and Germany, and 8 regions, with the US and Canada priced together as North America.

Can a manufacturer send a product catalogue PDF on WhatsApp?

Yes. Meta's media page lists PDF among the document types it accepts, up to 100 MB. Inside the 24-hour window after a buyer's last message, the catalogue goes as an ordinary reply. Outside it, the business has to send an approved template first, and a template can carry the PDF as a document header.
