WhatsApp on websites worldwide: India tops our scan of 8.5 million .com homepages

Which countries use WhatsApp for business, measured by the links on their own websites rather than by survey. We read the August 2026 Common Crawl copy of every .com homepage it held, 8,497,286 of them, and sorted the WhatsApp numbers by country code.

The short version

  • Of 8,497,286 .com homepages in Common Crawl's August 2026 archive, 420,673 (4.95%) carry a WhatsApp click-to-chat link and 16,762, or 0.197%, carry a WhatsApp platform vendor's code or domain.
  • Sorted by the country code of the number, India is first with 43,025 numbered pages (12.1%), ahead of Turkey (7.5%), Spain (7.1%), Indonesia (6.8%), the US and Canada (5.8%) and China (5.6%).
  • Platform fingerprints are rare everywhere: 1.0% of Colombian-numbered pages, 0.9% of Indian, 0.8% of Argentine, and 0.1% of Turkish, Spanish and Chinese ones.
  • Different vendors lead in different countries: Weni in Brazil and Colombia, Kommo in Mexico, Mekari Qontak in Indonesia, respond.io in the US and Canada, Insider in Turkey, Interakt and AiSensy in India.
  • HubSpot's chat widget leads Tawk.to worldwide, 62,154 homepages to 46,155. On Indian .in homepages Tawk.to leads HubSpot about five to one.

Which countries use WhatsApp for business? The usual answers come from user surveys and app-download charts. We counted something more direct, WhatsApp usage by country as seen in the links businesses put on their own websites. In August 2026 Common Crawl, an open copy of the public web, held the homepages of 8,497,286 .com domains. We read every one of them, looked for a WhatsApp click-to-chat link, the code of a WhatsApp platform vendor and a generic chat widget, and sorted the WhatsApp numbers by country code. The full method and every caveat are in our study of Indian websites; this article is the .com set drawn as a world map.

We make Conecxt, one of the WhatsApp platforms in this category. Conecxt leaves no homepage fingerprint, so it is absent from the vendor tables below, as is every other tool that works through the API alone.

Cleaning removed 6,327 homepages whose title read as a parked or placeholder page or whose only number was a demo or domain-parking number. Of the links, 255,807 use wa.me, 158,540 api.whatsapp.com/send, 33,032 web.whatsapp.com/send, 12,539 whatsapp://send and 70 wa.link; a page can use more than one.

WhatsApp business adoption worldwide, measured this way, is one .com homepage in twenty. On .in the figure is one in five. The .com set is worldwide, so the two numbers describe different things; the interesting part is how the 4.95% splits by country.

Which countries use WhatsApp for business on their websites?

India, by a clear margin. A .com can be registered from anywhere, so we attributed each page to a country by the country code of the first WhatsApp number on it; WhatsApp’s own link format carries the full international number, so the code is in the link. Of the 420,673 WhatsApp-linking pages, 356,316 had a number we could read, and 22,064 of those (6.2%) carried a prefix we could not place, so they sit outside the ranking.

15Russia and Kazakhstan (+7)6,5321.8%26 (0.4%)

The ranking runs to 30 countries in our data. Below fifteenth place come Malaysia (6,084), Saudi Arabia (4,874), Israel (4,825), Pakistan (4,682), France (4,568), Germany (4,288), Egypt (4,251), Hong Kong (3,958), Peru (3,882), Singapore (3,448), the Netherlands (2,784), Bangladesh (2,773), Thailand (2,157) and Morocco (2,054).

Two things in the table surprised us. Turkey and Spain each put more WhatsApp numbers on .com homepages than the United States and Canada together. And a Chinese number appears on 20,049 pages, sixth in the world; we did not look into who those businesses sell to, and the count is simply what the pages carry.

The biggest markets are among the least platform-managed

Nowhere does the platform share reach much above one page in a hundred. Colombia is the highest at 1.0%, then India at 0.9%, Argentina 0.8%, Mexico and Hong Kong 0.7%, Brazil and the UAE 0.6%. Three of the six largest markets by volume sit at 0.1%: Turkey, Spain and China. Singapore, the Netherlands, Bangladesh, Thailand and Morocco show no platform fingerprint at all on a numbered page.

Read the column as a floor, for two reasons. It counts only pages that also carry a readable number, so a platform page whose link has no number in it is left out. And a fingerprint needs the vendor’s code or domain on the homepage; a business that runs a provider’s inbox behind a plain wa.me link looks exactly like one that doesn’t. What the column does show is where businesses put a vendor’s widget on the page, and Latin America and India do that more than Europe, Turkey or China.

Who runs the platforms, country by country

Each market has its own leader. The counts are of platform pages that also carry a number in that country.

The Indian tools travel a little. In the UAE, Gallabox appears on 6 numbered platform pages, and Zoko, the AiSensy widget, Engati and Wati on 4 each. They appear in smaller numbers in the US and Canada (the AiSensy widget and Wati, 3 each), Turkey (Gallabox 2), Spain (Zoko 2) and China (Wati 2).

Salesforce appears in eight of the eleven rows, and this is where the fingerprint caveat matters most. Salesforce, Twilio, HubSpot and Zendesk sell many things; a Salesforce fingerprint means the page runs Salesforce code, not that the business sends WhatsApp messages through Salesforce. Treat those rows as “has that vendor on the page” and nothing more.

The global vendor table

Across all 8,497,286 .com homepages, 90 of the 119 companies in our June 2026 copy of Meta’s Business Partner directory leave at least one fingerprint. The twenty most detected, as counts of homepages:

Further down come Alibaba Cloud (105), Botmaker (79), Infobip (70), AiSensy by domain reference (68), LimeChat (66), Mekari Qontak (63), Genesys (62), MSG91 (58), SleekFlow (51) and Sinch (50). Five of the fifteen tools we added to the detector list because they are common in India sit inside the top 30 worldwide: Interakt, Zoko, Gallabox, LimeChat and MSG91. Their counts on pages with an Indian number (Interakt 61, Gallabox 29, LimeChat 26, Zoko 24, MSG91 13) are a fraction of those worldwide totals, but the country column only counts pages that also carry a readable number, so we can’t say where the rest sit.

The top of the table is multi-product vendors again. Salesforce alone is 7,470 of the 16,762 platform fingerprints on .com, about 45%, and we would not read that as 7,470 businesses messaging through the WhatsApp API.

HubSpot or Tawk.to: the widget layer by geography

Generic chat widgets outnumber WhatsApp platforms on .com, 176,536 homepages against 16,762, roughly ten to one. HubSpot’s chat is on 62,154 homepages (0.73%), Tawk.to on 46,155 (0.54%), Zendesk on 23,932 (0.28%), LiveChat 19,074 (0.22%), Tidio 15,099 (0.18%), Intercom 9,780 (0.12%), Crisp 6,385 (0.08%), Chatwoot 1,923, Freshchat 1,705 and Drift 452. Worldwide, HubSpot leads.

India inverts that. On .in homepages Tawk.to is on 2,079 and HubSpot on 386, about five to one the other way. Why a free widget wins in India, and what a widget can and cannot do next to a WhatsApp link, is the subject of the chat widget article.

The Indian slice of .com

Those 43,025 Indian-numbered .com homepages are a large study in themselves. Of them, 42,643 carry no platform fingerprint and 382 do (0.9%). Most list a single number (39,929), but 2,636 list two, 298 three, 68 four and 94 five or more, so 3,096 pages (7.2%) carry more than one WhatsApp number, against 5.7% on .in. Common Crawl’s language detection puts 42,212 of them (98.1%) in English, then Hindi (243), Persian (79), Spanish (56), Marathi (55), Portuguese (44) and Tamil (40).

Add them to the 24,059 .in homepages with a WhatsApp link and India has 67,084 WhatsApp-linked homepages across the two endings, of which 1,100 (718 plus 382) show a platform fingerprint. We did not scan .co, .org, .net, .shop or .store. Which WhatsApp platforms Indian websites use ranks the vendors on both sets.

An invented example of the typical row: Sanjay Pawar runs a 22-person foundry in Kolhapur that machines pump castings for buyers in Gujarat and the Gulf. His website is a .com because his first customer in Sharjah said a .in looked local. The homepage carries one wa.me link to his own number and nothing else, and he answers the Marathi, Hindi and English enquiries himself between shifts. He is one of the 42,643.

What the .com scan can and cannot tell you

  • A page is attributed to a country by the country code of its WhatsApp number, not by where the business is registered or where its customers are. An Indian exporter with a UAE sales number counts as UAE.
  • The set is .com only. Businesses on .in, .co.uk, .com.br, .de and every other ending are not in it, except that the .in set has its own study linked above.
  • Homepage only. A WhatsApp link on a contact page counts as “no link”, so every share here is a floor.
  • A platform fingerprint means the vendor’s code or domain is on the page. Platform use is undercounted, and for multi-product vendors the fingerprint is not proof of WhatsApp use.
  • Counts are of homepages, not companies. One business can own many domains.
  • Common Crawl is a very large sample of the public web, not a census, and large, well-linked sites are over-represented in it.
  • Everything describes August 2026. A page can have changed since.

What it means for an Indian business

You are in the country with the most WhatsApp-linked .com homepages in the world, and in one where 99 of every 100 of them show no platform: a link to a phone, and someone’s handset behind it. Your buyer, in Surat or in Sharjah, expects the link to be there and expects a person to answer it. Most competitors who have the button run it the same way you do. What differs is what happens after the tap: whether the enquiry reaches someone on shift, whether a second person can pick it up, and whether the thread survives the day the phone’s owner leaves. The terms in this article, from click-to-chat to platform, are in the glossary.

The next question, which vendors the 16,762 platform pages actually run and how the Indian tools compare on their home ground, is answered in which WhatsApp platforms Indian websites use. For the per-country table beyond the top 30 as a file, write to us through the contact page.

Common questions

Which countries use WhatsApp for business the most?

By WhatsApp links on .com homepages, India leads. In our scan of 8,497,286 .com homepages from Common Crawl's August 2026 archive, 43,025 of the 356,316 pages with a readable WhatsApp number (12.1%) carried an Indian number, ahead of Turkey (26,894), Spain (25,390), Indonesia (24,333), the US and Canada (20,530) and China (20,049).

What share of websites worldwide have a WhatsApp button?

In our scan, 420,673 of 8,497,286 .com homepages (4.95%) carried a WhatsApp click-to-chat link in August 2026. Another 176,536 (2.08%) carried a generic chat widget. The scan reads homepages only and .com only, so a business that links WhatsApp from a contact page or from another domain ending is not counted.

How many businesses worldwide use a WhatsApp Business Platform provider?

Our scan can only count those whose homepage carries a vendor's code or domain: 16,762 .com homepages (0.197%), against 418,944 that link WhatsApp with no platform fingerprint. A business that runs a provider's inbox behind a plain wa.me link leaves no trace, so the real number is higher and the gap is an upper bound.

Which WhatsApp platform is most used in each country?

By homepage fingerprints on .com pages that also carry a number: Weni leads in Brazil (24) and Colombia (36), Kommo in Mexico (18), Mekari Qontak in Indonesia (33), respond.io in the US and Canada (40), Insider in Turkey (11), Salesforce in Spain (8) and the UAE (12), and Interakt and the AiSensy widget in India (61 each).
